On 18 March 2026, Professor Peter Jones OBE from the Centre for Transport Studies of University College London presented the 2026 John Taplin Memorial Lecture. Peter’s presentation was entitled “Urban Transport Planning: Retrospective & Prospective: An interplay of policy, concepts & methodology”. A copy of his presentation slides can be downloaded by following the link below.
Peter also provided a presentation earlier the same day entitled “The transport sector alone cannot deliver net zero transport”. A copy of those slides can be downloaded by following the link below.
The lecture is held annually in memory of Emeritus Professor John Taplin AM, a pioneer in modelling travel choices and demand elasticities, as well as at applying genetic algorithms to optimise transport investment decisions. John was a Professor at UWA since 1991 and an Emeritus Professor at the University since 2010. John was also a Professor at the University of Tasmania between 1978 and 1982; during this time, Peter and John worked together for a period.
