The Transport Portfolio, in association with the Ministry of Data, held the first TransportHack at WeWork Perth this past weekend. A/Prof. Doina Olaru, Mr. Tristan Reed and Mr. Yan Ji from PATREC participated in the event which aimed to generate solutions to problems faced by the transport portfolio in the space of 48 hours.
A/Prof. Olaru and Mr. Reed formed a team with others and looked to solve the problem of single occupancy vehicle usage. The solution proposed by their team used travel time, greenhouse gas and health data processed by the group to inform the design of an App which can tell users the things they can gain by not using single occupancy vehicles.
Mr. Ji and formed a team with others and looked to solve the ‘bugs’ in the public transport system through analysing timetable data and visualising it in an easy-to-understand manner.
His team won the “Judge’s Discretion Award” for their solution to visualising bus delay. PATREC congratulates Mr. Ji and all competitors for their hard work and achievement.
